The brief was to design a contemporary house for a young family where all the main living areas are on street level with the garage and storage facilities below and the guest facilities above.

The design concept was to create a building that clearly articulated, both in plan and elevation, the distinct functions that make the house. In plan, the house is neatly split into three sections by two circulation axes running north-south. The central section contains the formal spaces with the other flanking sections being the family wing to the West and the bedroom wing to the East.

Externally, the building also expresses the functions of the house. The central formal areas are defined by the two stone-clad towers flanking the front entry. The family wing is expressed by a two storey volume with tall timber blades and a folded roof that cantilevers over a water feature. The bedroom wing is expressed by a smaller facade with a lower roof profile.

Overall, the building addresses the street with a similar scale to those in the neighbourhood utilizing clean lines and a palette of natural and contemporary materials.
